The changing of our values

I’m sure that every generation in their childhood would be asked the same question of what they want to become after they grow up. As for my generation and those before us, I think in most cases the answers would be included in becoming a scientist, a professor, teacher, pilot and so on. Interestingly, for most people their dreams constantly change over time. I myself could not escape from such phenomenon either. When I was little boy, I was so eager to become an explorer who could travel all around the world. After attending high school, I wanted to become an entrepreneur. While studying in the university, all I needed was a secure and well-paid job.

Surveyors are always interested in investigation and statistics of how people are changing as our society developed. I recently read a piece of news which was related to an investigation of young children’s values. When asked about they dreams, they didn’t not repeat the answers of their predecessors. Most of them admitted that they were more interested in money and wealth rather than anything else. What they wanted was to be able to afford luxury watches such as Ballon Bleu de Cartier Watches, Bvlgari, Breguet, Patek Philippe etc. They also showed preference to expensive cars such as Land Rover, Lamborghelloni, Ferrari and so on. This tendency of changing our beliefs from spiritual objectives to material things, it worried those experts a lot.

I would say it is all because of the convenient access to all kinds of information that our thoughts have been changed and this would never come to an end.
